What's Happening:
xx Jan 20 2012 meeting
January 06, 2012, 01:51:10 PM by beeze
Hi, folks and Happy New Year!

Here is your reminder of our next meeting, Tuesday January 10 at 7:00PM at the Bass Lake clubhouse.

Please bring some show and tell photos; you can choose from two themes: "Wheels" and "Faces".

Also, if you so choose, we will open the floor to comments and suggestions on how to improve
your photos. We'll have a separate set of pictures for this segment; if you choose to just to
show-and-tell, you do not have to have critiques. We thought we would try this out as a way of
learning more about creating good photos, learning how to judge and be judged for photo contests,
and hearing other's perspectives. Again, this is optional; we'll see how it goes and if we get
benefit from it.

The activity this month will be a "What's in your bag" - bring your camera bag and equipment
and share what you like, how you use it, what you can't live without, and what does not work for you.

We also will discuss the Bass Lake Photo Contest. If you know of
local businesses which would like to be sponsors or who can supply prizes (gift cards
or merchandise), we need to start contacting/soliciting from them. I'll draft a official letter from the club
that we can distribute at the meeting.

See you Tuesday!

xx Looking for sponsors for Bass Lake Photo Contest
January 23, 2012, 07:57:23 PM by beeze
Hi, folks.

As I briefly mentioned at January's meeting, we co-host the Bass Lake Photo Contest with the town of Holly Springs each year.
The town will produce the brochure/flyer - and they will list major sponsors on that flyer and on their web page.

This is where you come it: we need to identify a few sponsors!

If you know of a photo-related (or other) business which would like to be a sponsor, please contact them on
behalf of the club. Sponsors should provide some sort of support for the contest, such as donating prizes or services.
For example, NC TriColor Imaging provided free final prints (for display) for the winners last year.

Please help out if you can -- bring any ideas or contacts to the next meeting.

Thanks,
David Biesack
President

xx Feb 14 meeting
January 31, 2012, 08:01:39 PM by beeze
Greetings, fellow Bass Lake Photo Club members!

This is your reminder for the Feb meeting, Tuesday evening, Feb 14 at 7:00 at the Bass Lake Clubhouse (two weeks from today).

We have a speaker this month, thanks to Robin's recruiting - John Stanton. Here is his bio:

John has pursued photography in many different areas. He was a Photographers
Mate in the US Navy. Also a Photographic Illustrator at the world's largest
commercial studio. He worked for The Eastman Kodak Co. In that position he
presented over 500 programs in 28 different countries. He earned the Degrees of
Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman with the Professional
Photographers of America. He is also a Fellow with the American Society of
Photographers and also with the British Institute of Photography. He says his
work continues to evolve. He feel digital photography in all its aspects opens
many new creative doors. It keeps him young. An old dog can learn new tricks!
His program deals with his past experiences as a professional photographer and
what he is doing now to help colleagues compete in state and national
    photographic competitions.

Our show and tell topics for this month are Weather and Red. I received a couple comments last time about show and tell -- to allow everyone a chance to show their photos without rushing, please limit the number of pictures to no more than 8, so as to not monopolize the time. Thanks!

We will also try to squeeze in some gadget talk.  If you did not get to talk about your gear last month, bring it again (but time may not permit much discussion).

On the Bass Lake Photo Contest: we have a couple sponsors lined up, but could use more, and we also need more donors. Email me (president@basslakephotoclub.com) and I can email you a letter (PDF) that you can take to businesses to solicit prizes. (This is why I'm posting this notice two weeks in advance). Dave F. provided this list of donors from previous years:

    Bass Lake Draft House
    Archibald's Tavern
    Lowe's
    Harris Teeter (Sunset Lake Rd)
    Rudino's Pizza
    NY Pizza
    Michaelangelo's Pizza
    McDonalds
    Holly Springs Barber Shop
    Chik Fil A
    Walgreens (Main St)

If you live/work/travel near any of these places, please drop off a letter, then post back on the club web site at http://www.basslakephotoclub.com/SMF/index.php/topic,1413.0.html (so we don't duplicate visits to these places!)

Reminder: Please bring a check to pay your 2012 dues if you have not already done so.

xx April 10 Meeting
April 09, 2012, 06:19:41 AM by beeze
Greetings, all -

Please plan to attend our Bass Lake Photo Club meeting this week - Tuesday at 7:00, to be precise!

Our show and tell theme this month is solid colors and the insides of lens caps.
No, it's not - the theme is Jokes and April Fools!

Also, Robin will be presenting a tutorial on making compelling composite images.

We'll also do Gadget Gear, so if you have something fun to share from your camera bag, bring it!

Please bring any news or photo opportunities to share.

xx May Meeting!
May 06, 2012, 06:44:28 PM by beeze
May Meeting!

Our May meeting will be this Tuesday, May 8, 7:00 PM at the Bass Lake Clubhouse.

Your photo sharing topic is "Composites" - apply some of what you learned last month and create a composite to share. If you like, share how you created it we well.

Robin has also lined up a speaker for this month,  Jay Jennings. He is a Documentary Photographer with WRAL.  This should be very interesting, so try to bring a friend or two.

We'll also have some "shop talk" - lets open up for general club Q&A on photography - ask each other questions, share tips, show off your latest photography acquisition, whatever.

June will be the scavenger hunt, so also please bring some subjects/categories for the hunt.
